Mannequins is a series of highly worked, methodically executed portrait paintings in oil of mannequins in unusual costumes. Although essentially still life objects, the mannequins are rendered in a very realistic manner to suggest a dichotomy between the perceived real “life” image versus the actual “still life” image. Scratched into the painted background are texts which flow in a stream of consciousness-like way, connecting the artist’s imagined internal thoughts of the mannequin with its external image.
